211 Squadron – Weekly Announcements (February 7th 2019)
Please make sure that you properly and clearly read all of the below details.
Secondly, please make sure that before attending a Cadet activity following a significant weather event, that you first verify the squadron calendar available on the squadron website or the Facebook page to ensure the activity is still ongoing.
Band this Friday at Ottawa Technical Secondary School, 485 Donald St, from 18:15 to 20:30. For any questions, please contact FSgt Hatzis.
Junior Ground School:
Junior ground school will begin Monday February 25th.
There will be a marksmanship practice this Friday February 8th from 1900 to 2100 at the QMO (142 Chemin Freeman).
Warning, there is a chance of freezing rain for Friday. Please be aware that marksmanship may be cancelled on short notice if the weather is bad.
Drill Team Tuesday February 12th at NDHS from 18:30 to 20:30. Any cadets interested in joining the drill team should speak to FSgt McCloskey.
Effective Speaking Competition (Wednesday February 13th @ NDHS):
The Squadron competition is on Wed Feb 13th and the winner will have the privilege of representing the squadron at the regional competition in February 24-2019 Aviation museum.

Winter Field Training Exercise (February 15th to 17th 2019):
Squadrons 5, 51, 211, 500, 706, 742, 832 and 872 of the Ottawa Valley will participate in a winter survival exercise from February 15th to 17th 2019 at Tucker Lake in Low, Quebec. Any level 3’s, 4’s or 5’s interested in signing up are to contact FSgt Rudin-Brown. This activity will be offered only to 10 cadets. Departure and drop off are from NDHS, timings to be given. The personal kit list is attached.

Explore Aviation Summer Camp (deadline Friday March 8 2019):
Do you know a teen Who has what it takes to leave ordinary behind this summer?
With the success of last year’s inaugural camp, NAV CANADA is Announcing the second edition of the Explore Aviation Summer Camp for teens this summer. Female students Who Attended the camp last summer HAD Such an amazing Time That this year, a camp for young men will be making its beginning.
To encourage the next generation of young leaders to soar to new heights, Explore Aviation Summer Camp will offer 24 young women and 24 young men entering Grade 10 (or secondary 4 in Quebec) insider access to learn how aviation works in Canada, and about the people who help keep aircraft flying Safely. This one week, all-expenses-paid camp uses hands-on learning to explore exciting career choices in aviation to allow participants to experience the power and potential of a science education, and to be empowered to reach for success.
Who can apply: Students Reviews entering Grade 10 or secondary 4 in September 2019
Where: NAV CENTER in Cornwall, ON, with day trips to Montreal and Ottawa
When: Young women: July 14-19, 2019
Young men: August 11-16, 2019
Cost: Paid for by NAV CANADA Bursaries
Why: To inspire teens to explore Their personal and career potential in aviation
Participants will be selected from across Canada by a committee Composed of NAV CANADA aviation professionals. Applicants must submit an essay of 350 to 500 words explaining why They Want to Explore expected Aviation Summer Camp. A letter of recommendation from a teacher or community leader must be included with the application.
The Application deadline is March 8, 2019.
